In addition to/instead of doing Jillian Michaels' 30DS every day, I've also added in running on the treadmill on some days. I like Jillian, but I want to mix up my routine a little to make sure that I'm getting the most out of my workouts. On Tuesday I decided to hop on the treadmill and run 1 mile, just to see if I still could. I went at a slow pace (4.0 mph - a 15 minute mile and if you look it up on MFP it's classified as "brisk walk" but I was going through running motions so it counts as running to me) and I did it! I was actually very proud of myself for how I felt after that mile!
Like I said, I felt pretty good after that run. Tired, but not exhausted. I made it through without dying too badly! So last night I tried to do a mile at a faster speed. I ran about 3/4 of it at speed 4.5 (a 12-minute mile) and was dying. I also didn't drink as much water yesterday, so being dehydrated could have affected how I felt too. I tried to push through to finish at that speed, but thought better of it and went down to 4.0 to finish the remaining quarter. Better safe than sorry, right? The result was that I finished my mile in 13:40 - a full 1:20 off of my previous night's time. I think for now I'm going to focus on going farther/longer at the 4.0 pace (even if MFP doesn't consider it "running") because my goal is to eventually start doing races like 5K's.
So how has changing up my workout routine affected my weekly weigh in? Here are my results for this week:
Current Weight: 218.0
Change Since Last Week: -2.6
Change Overall: -7

So proud of you Kim!! 1.20 minutes off in one night is amazing!! I stay focus on the distance rather than the time. Once I'm better at running the distance and have it down I'll focus more on the time it takes me to do it. Keep up the good work!!
Yay! I'm so proud that you were able to stay on track and stay motivated for those workouts! Great job getting that much time off your mile. That's something that I'm working on too (when my back allows me to), except mine is strictly walking. What an awesome loss you had this week!
Treadmills are tough for me. I'm not a runner, but i like to pretend to be :) I use Runkeeper and run/walk outside (when it's above 20 degrees) and it keeps me much more entertained. Congrats on your progress! So awesome!
You are doing so freaking good! 7 pounds???? Keep up whatever it is you are doing because it is WORKING. P.S. When I "run" it's at 4.5 mph sooooooo that makes me feel so much better! Haha. You are awesome!
Congrats, Kim!! :)
Keep it up sister! I am glad you are adding more to your workouts!! Great idea!
I wish I had a treadmill! This winter weather makes it so miserable outside!
Great job! I can't run 1/4 mile, so that's awesome! I've GOT to get my treadmill fixed so I can start walking/running as well. Keep up the hard work! BTW, the 4 on your treadmill and the 4 on mine must be different. My 4 is DEFINITELY faster than a brisk walk, at least for this short girl, it is.
2.6! That's awesome! Such a great job!
keep up the great work lady. I'm so proud of you!
good job girlfriend!
Great job!! I haven't even tried running a mile on the treadmill but I do intervals; you've inspired me to try it!! And hey, about your 4mph? I have little legs so 4mph is running in my book!! Go you!
That is an awesome number for this week (and overall as well!). Congrats girl, it seems to be working for you! =)
So, I found your blog through the mini messy, but had to come over here to read about your healthy lifestyle changes. I'm so proud of you for posting that! My heaviest weight 2 years ago was 227. I've lost 43 lbs so far, and am down to 184 as of this morning. Yes, it has taken 2 years, but I see that as more of a lifestyle change than a diet fad. I do weekly check ins on my blog every Monday, so you should come help me in my journey as well. I've recently fallen off the wagon, but am back on this week. Keep up the good work!! I'm also on MFP...nicoledhackley.
